Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport is set to give jobs to 80 benefit claimants from Teesside in a unique solution to British unemployment.


In order to qualify for the positions, applicants must be able to prove they are unemployed and in receipt of a work-related benefit.Those successful will be trained by the Grangetown Training and Employment hub, before going to work in the airport's cargo warehouses.Councillor Wayne Davies, cabinet member for economic development at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: "It is great news for the Borough and great news for the team, I cannot praise our business teams enough.

"I believe there is a relocation package, that would include things like sorting out accommodation and getting them prepared to be in a different country."The job involves breaking down cargo so it can be transported as freight across Europe.The training course lasts four to five days and weekly hours will average 40.

The hourly wage starts at £12.67, rising to £18.76 for weekend work.
