The Great North Run: All you need to know about running in 2021
This year's Great North Run is the latest event in the North East to be cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Organisers announced on Monday morning the Great North Run 2020 would no longer be going ahead.
This year's event would have celebrated the half marathon's 40th anniversary.
The race attracts around 57,000 entrants and around 200,000 spectators.
So if you were one of those potential runners and had been due to take part in this year's race, here's a guide to what happens now.
When will I next get a chance to participate in the Great North Run?
The Great North Run has now been rescheduled for September 12 2021.
How do I enrol for next year's event?
Ballot runners and members have the option to roll their entry to be considered for the run in 2021.
There will be nothing to pay and entry for the race will be secured.
Importantly, anyone wishing to roll their entry has to do so before August 1 2020.
What if I now want to withdraw?
If you don't want to roll your entry over then you will be automatically refunded. The refund will be made to the card used to pay for entry.
Anyone who has not rolled their entry by the deadline will be refunded.
Importantly, the refund given will have a £5 deduction for what the Great North Run company call an administration fee.
The company said this had been in the terms and conditions at the point of entry and that the administration fee is in line with other similar events.
The refund will be processed after July 31.
What is the process for charity runners?
Thousands of people participate in the Great North Run for charities and good causes.
The organisers said they have communicated with charities over the cancellation of this year's event and that charities will be in touch directly with charity runners.
What about the money already raised in sponsorship for charity?
Runners are advised to get in touch with the charity they've been raising money for and discuss options.
The Great North Run organisers said they were planning an event this year to mark what would have been the big occasion, so that could instead be used as the fundraising event.
Will there be a ballot for next year's Great North Run?
The event's organisers said it may be the case that there will be no spaces available for next year's run.
It depends on how many people decide to roll their entry for this year to next year.
Can I transfer my place if I can't make 2021?
Places for the race can't be traded or transferred.
The organisers advise not rolling your entry if you can't make it next year.
What's happening this year instead?
On their website, the organisers of the Great North Run have said "we are working on some big plans to mark the occasion".
They say they'll share more details in the coming days.
