Nissan resumes production at Sunderland plant

Nissan's Sunderland plant has resumed vehicle production after almost three months.

The car giant says hundreds of hours of preparation was carried out to ensure the safe return of employees to the site on Wearside.

Bosses say every operation across the plant has been 'rigorously risk assessed to make sure it’s safe', with more than 5,000 processes reviewed.

Improved safety measures include barriers and dividers used as separators between operators and one way systems across the site.

Rest areas have been redesigned and break times rescheduled to support social distancing and remove common touchpoints. Staff are also provided with all necessary PPE.

During the COVID-19 pandemic staff at the Sunderland plant were tasked with creating and distributing PPE, including aprons and visors, to the NHS.
