Veteran's idea to name streets after frontline NHS workers who lost their lives to COVID-19

A service veteran from our region has come up with his own plan to create a lasting memory of our frontline NHS workers.

Bede McCabe is calling on councils across the North East to name newly built streets, to remember frontline staff who have died from COVID-19 whilst in the line of duty.

The project is being supported by NAFFI Break- a South Tyneside organisation set up to help ex-service personnel.

Bede had the idea after visiting New York a few years after 9/11, where he saw that some of the streets are named after frontline workers who gave their lives trying to rescue and save people. He says doing the same here, would give the family a great pride but also the people that live there a great pride.
