Domestic abuser who repeatedly ignored court orders jailed

Northumbria Police have released a stark warning that domestic abusers will still be prosecuted, despite the COVID-19 lockdown.

It follows the arrest and sentencing of a man from Newcastle repeatedly ignored court orders preventing him from contacting his victim.

Lee Pritchard, 41, has been sentenced to four weeks behind bars after ignoring police and court warnings about contacting or visiting his ex-partner.

A senior police officer has reassured victims of domestic abuse across Northumbria that support is there if they need it.

The Force's advice is, if you have been a victim of domestic abuse, contact police on 101, or 999 in an emergency, or visit the ‘Tell us Something’ pages of their website.

Victims can also contact Victims First Northumbria on 0800 011 3116 who will give independent advice and support.

If you are in immediate danger, call 999 and ask for the police - the police will continue to respond to emergency calls.

If you are in danger and unable to talk on the phone, call 999 and then press 55.

This will transfer your call to the relevant police force who will assist you without you having to speak.

Anyone in isolation who feels anxious is reminded that not all domestic abuse is physical.

Other forms of abuse include:

  • Coercive control

  • Economic abuse

  • Online abuse

  • Verbal abuse

  • Emotional abuse

  • Sexual abuse
