Swimming in Antarctica: One Northumberland woman takes on the frozen challenge of a lifetime

Jane Hardy is a regular visitor to the North Sea Coast.

Most days, come rain or shine, you can find her swimming in the waves.

But these swims are not just a bit of fun - they are training,

Jane is heading to Antarctica next week to attempt to swim in the icy waters around the continent.

The swim aims to raise awareness of climate change and how the rising sea temperatures are affecting the coldest place on Earth.

Ross went to meet her before her epic challenge.

Jane is also a volunteer marine mammal medic for British Divers Marine Life Rescue, and will use the swim to help raise funds for the group.

Jane completed her swim at the beginning of March.

She became the first English woman to swim 1km in the ice waters of the Antarctic, wearing only a swimming costume.
