Teenager falls 30 feet down wall cavity in Newton Aycliffe
Firefighters have smashed down a wall to reach a teenager who'd fallen down a cavity from the roof of a shopping centre.
Fire crews were called to Thames Shopping Centre in Newton Aycliffe just before 6pm on 16 December.
The teenager had fallen around 30 feet down a cavity which was only around 50 cm wide.
Rob Cherrie, County Durham Fire and Rescue Service.
Specialist rope rescue teams were unable to reach the boy because the void was too tight. Firefighters broke through two walls to free the boy who had managed to speak to his mother on the phone during the rescue attempt.
The teenager was taken to James Cook Hospital with a suspected broken ankle.
