Piano Festival underway at Ushaw Historic House & Chapels
People have gathered in County Durham to celebrate the Ushaw Piano Festival at Ushaw Historic house and chapels. The festival coincides with World Singing Day.
Among the highlights, The Singing Elf, Rebecca McGarvie, hosted a choir session with adults, featuring songs from across the world and Beethoven was played in the theatre by pianist, Alex Chisholm-Loxley.
As well as the singing workshop, the day featured piano and organ recitals, and an opportunity for people to ‘come and play’ one of the many pianos located around the college.
The World Singing Day workshop was free, but singers were invited to make voluntary donations.
Jonathan Ward, the Ushaw Commercial Director said "It's really significant because these sort of things don't happen in County Durham. We've got huge buildings here which we can fill with music in a way that other places just can't so it's really special to us."
