Weather: Noctilucent clouds light up the night sky
Noctilucent clouds are a rare phenomenon unique to this time of year- only seen on clear, summer nights.
Although they are called 'clouds' they are not what we would usually associate with the term.
They are made from collections of ice crystals high up in the atmosphere, so high that they still catch the light from the sun well after sunset.
Noctilucent clouds tend to glow blue and grey although, as you can see from your photos, sometimes they appear more varied
