Spirits were high as supporters made their voices heard, taking over both Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square.

In scenes reminiscent of the recent Checkatrade trophy final, fans waved flags, sang songs and even had a dip in the famous Trafalgar Square fountains.

Kick off is at three o’clock on Sunday at Wembley.

Landmarks, structures and public spaces across Wearside are being lit in the colours of Sunderland AFC this weekend as the team head into the play-off final.

Red and white lighting will glow on the Northern Spire, Keel Square, Seaburn Lighthouse, High Street West and Fulwell Mill until dawn on Monday 27 May.
