Gary Wilson beats Mark Selby to bag a surprise victory at World Snooker Championship
Tyneside snooker player Gary Wilson has claimed a surprise victory at 2019 World Championship.
The former taxi driver from Wallsend, beat three-time champion Mark Selby 13-10 in Sheffield.
Selby, ranked second in the world, was champion in 2014, 2016 and 2017. He resumed 9-7 behind but won the first two frames of the final session to level at the Crucible.
Wilson, however, kept his nerve as the pair exchanged the next two frames.
The 33-year-old won the next three frames, two of them in style with breaks of 86 and 92, to end Selby's hopes of a fourth world crown.
Gary Wilson will now go on to a quarter-final date with either Ali Carter or Zhou Yuelong.
