Production company pledges to audition more disabled actors

A production company which makes some of the country's best dramas has pledged to audition more disabled actors.

The commitment comes after two Coronation Street actors created D-A-N-C, a Disabled Artists Networking Community with a growing database of actors.

Until now, some producers said they didn't know where to find disabled actors and that explained the lack of diversity on screen.

In just its first year, DANC says that's already changing and it's opening up theatres too.

"It is thoughtless and wrong for producers to keep telling stories without disabled people in them."

That's the view of BlackMirror Producer and Head of Drama at Lime Pictures.

Two Coronation Street actors, Melissa Johns and Cherylee Houston, created a networking community to help more disabled actors get work.

In a special report, Elaine Willcox has also been on the set of Hollyoaks, where they're proud to be part of a TV first.
