Two men charged after suspected stabbing that left a man with life-threatening injuries

Two men have been charged following a suspected stabbing in Newcastle that left a man fighting for his life in hospital.

Police were called at about 10 O'Clock on Wednesday morning, to reports that a man had been assaulted outside of a house on Chatsworth Gardens in Walker.

Emergency services went to the scene and the 37-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing. He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Five people have been arrested as part of the police investigation into the stabbing but now two of those suspects have been charged.

  • Edward David Wilson, 59, of Chatsworth Gardens, Walker, has been charged with wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

  • Christopher Swindle, 31, of St Anthony's Road, Walker, has been charged with assisting an offender.

Both men will appear before magistrates in Bedlington on Friday morning while the other three men arrested have been released under investigation.
