A major search is taking place for a teacher from Pickering who has gone missing from home.

Nicholas Harper's car was discovered in a car park at Cowbank Farm near Helmsley.

The fifty year old was last seen leaving home on the morning of Thursday 7th February to go to work in York - but he never arrived.

Searches have taken place involving Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team along with colleagues from the Scarborough and Rydale team. Police and search dogs also scoured footpaths and forested areas, with a police helicopter also joining the operation.

So far, Mr Harper has not been found.

He is a keen ultra runner and used to covering long distances. Members of the running community are being asked to look out for him if they are in the outdoors.

North Yorkshire Police say they are growing increasingly concerned for Mr Harper and are urging people to come forward with any information.

He is 5ft 5ins tall and described as stockily built with dark brown short hair and a full beard. He may be wearing a three piece suit.
