The match drew a record crowd of 2,520 and was televised on the red button, showcasing two teams that are separated by four non-league divisions.

First half goals from Greg Olley, Stephen Rigg and Scott Boden effectively settling the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round by half-time.

Dunston came close with a free kick from Jake Stafford just after the hour mark, but on-loan Sunderland midfielder Luke Molyneux sealed it for Gateshead by adding the fourth with 15 minutes to go.

For Dunston, their dream of a cup run is over, after previously knocking out Chester. Gateshead, however, take their place in Monday’s First Round draw, securing £25,000 in prize money.
