North East Film Archive brings nostalgia to the big screen

The North East Film Archive and Tyneside Cinema have joined forces to bring a bit of nostalgia to the big screen

Tyneside On Film is a programme of archive film covering over 90 years of material that will be on show to those wanting to take a walk down memory lane until October 25.

The film takes a look back at Laurel and Hardy's visit Tynemouth in 1932 as well as the resilience of the people of Gateshead during the Second World War.

There is also footage of shipyards on the Tyne, a day at the races, The Spanish City in Whitley Bay and The world famous funfair The Hoppings.

Viewers will also revisit local television news stories from ties gone by.

Tyneside On Film is part of our North East on Film project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

North East On Film is about finding, preserving, digitising and sharing our region's moving image heritage, so that those familiar faces, places, great events and everyday working lives that have all been captured on film are revealed once again for everyone to see and enjoy.
