Redcar to host stage of 2020 Tour De Yorkshire
One of the UK’s biggest sporting events – the Tour de Yorkshire – is coming to Redcar and Cleveland.
The borough has been chosen to host a stage of the cycle race in 2020
The announcement was made by Sir Gary Verity at a press conference in Leeds launching the 2019 edition.
The race brought an estimated £98 million into the Yorkshire economy earlier this year. It is hoped that Redcar and Cleveland will benefit from a boost in tourism during the 2020 event.
The area will host a stage of what has become a huge sporting event capable of attracting world class cycling stars.
This year former World Champion, Mark Cavendish MBE, took part and the race was won by Olympic gold medallist, Belgian Greg Van Avermaet.
