Police officers in North Yorkshire had to sweep away shards of broken glass, after fly tippers left rubbish strewn along a 100m stretch of road.

A member of the public reported that rubbish had been dumped down the middle of Jolby Lane, near Stapleton, in Richmondshire on July 14.

Officers swept the glass to the roadside to avoid any danger to motorists and said they believe a tipper vehicle discarded its load as it drove along the lane.

They're asking anyone with information to contact North Yorkshire Police via the 101 number and quote reference 12180127421.

Earlier this month, Operation Eyeball was launched to tackle fly tipping in rural parts of North Yorkshire and the City of York.

North Yorkshire Police say officers will be gathering and sharing intelligence around fly tipping hot spots, suspect vehicles and waste carriers.
