Yellow warning of ice following day of snowfall
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of ice overnight across Northern England.
Icy stretches are expected to form on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
It warns injuries are possible on icy surfaces and advises motorists to allow more time for their journeys.
Three inches of snow fell in parts of the North East and North Yorkshire, with Met Office weather warnings in place for most of the day.
The snow was forecast and it fell gently from breakfast time, quickly covering the region in a white blanket.
Parts of North Yorkshire were on amber warning for heavy snow. In Ripon, it prompted some to delay their plans for the day.
In the city centre, the council was ready to help sending in a plough for the pavements but they weren't able to help everyone.
While the snow proved a short-lived hassle for some, with schools out for Christmas there was a chance for some quality time in the snow for many.
