One hundred jobs are at risk at a call centre in Gateshead.
Staff at the Virgin Media customer service centre, at Team Valley, have been sent an email telling them that the company is looking to redeploy some of the posts to the Philippines.
A spokesman said they were receiving fewer phone calls from the public, with many people making enquiries online.
The company emailed employees at the Gateshead centre to inform them of the proposed changes.
Plans outline that 85% of the work done in the Gateshead call centre will now be outsourced to the Phillipines.
The remaining 15% of inbound customer contact will transfer to Virgin's Customer Retentions site in Teesside.
