Woman, 84, left with broken hip after street robbery in Norton

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery left an 84-year-old woman with a broken hip in Norton.

A male, who emerged from Cameron Street, passed the victim and 'wished her goodnight' before grabbing her bag and pulling it from her. The woman was pushed to the floor by the suspect, sustaining a broken hip. It happened on Greta Road shortly after 10pm on 2 October.

The victim laid injured for up to an hour before she was found. She needed surgery and remains at the University Hospital of North Tees.

The suspect made off towards Darlington Lane with the victim’s leather handbag containing a red purse with £30 inside, a bus pass and bingo dabbers. He is described as a white male, aged in his twenties.
