Manager Gary Mills sacked by York City
York City FC have sacked manager Gary Mills after Saturday's defeat at South Shields in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.
The team competes in the National League North, the sixth tier of league football in England.
A club statement said that the decision to sack Mills, and his assistant-manager Darren Caskey, is based on the club’s performances over two seasons.
A statement from the club's chairman said that position in the league is 'unacceptable'.
Mills, who previously managed the club between 2010-2013, was re-appointed as manager in October 2016.
The club has won 13 out of 43 league games since his return to Bootham Crescent.
City are currently seventh in the National League North table - eleven points adrift of the only automatic promotion place.
The club is now in the process of finalising a new management structure, and say more details will be released in due course.
