"I'm ok!"

The first words from John Jeffries after landing in a field near Arnhem, Netherlands, 73 years after he'd jumped there during World War Two.

The 95-year-old veteran from Richmond, North Yorkshire, today recreated the parachute jump he made in 1944 during Operation Market Garden - better known as the battle of Arnhem.

John Jeffries said he wanted to commemorate the sacrifices made by comrades, and raise money for charity.

John Jeffries was one of ten thousand paratroopers who were dropped over the Dutch town in what turned out to be a disastrous campaign for the Allies during the Second World War.

It was a victory for the Germans, and only 2,400 of the men who landed made it out alive.

Before today's jump Mr Jeffries told ITV News that he would be thinking of his comrades, especially those who did not have a chance to lead such a long and fulfilling life.
