Two people in a life-threatening condition after South Shields crash
A man and woman have been airlifted to hospital in a life-threatening condition following a motorcycle accident in South Shields.
Two Great North Air Ambulance trauma teams, along with the North East Ambulance Service were called to the scene in Marsden just after 2pm.
Due to the severity of the injuries sustained by both patients, a second ambulance aircraft, from Langwathby, near Penrith flew over to assist.
Both patients were place in an induced comas, before they were flown to the RVI in Newcastle for ongoing treatment.
Both were in a critical condition on arrival at hospital after sustaining injuries to the head, chest, pelvis and legs.
Their condition is described as life-threatening.
