CCTV released after concern for safety of Whitby man

Police in Whitby have released CCTV image of a man they are trying to trace to confirm he is safe and well.

It's after two fishermen reported concerns for a man who had walked to the end of the West Pier in Whitby in the early hours of Tuesday (August 22nd).

The man then climbed down a ladder onto the lower concrete section of the Pier. After around 20 minutes, the concerned fishermen went down to find the man but there was no sign of him.

It’s believed he has climbed up one of the pier’s external access ladders. A man fitting his description has then picked up on CCTV walking onto Pier Road, The Swing Bridge and then Church Street.

Police are urging the public to get in contact if they recognise the man or know of his whereabouts.
