Northumbria Police officer 'dismissed' over failing to investigate sex offender's phone

A Northumbria force police officer has been sacked for failing to investigate a sex offender's phone.

Northumbria Chief Constable Steve Ashman said the officer was dismissed after his actions were found to be "grossly negligent".

It can now be reported that the officer had sight of Bahmani Ahmadi's phone but did not "interrogate" it when he dealt with a complaint from a teenage girl in 2012.

If the handset had been checked, it could have revealed the extent of hisgrooming.

It was two years later that he was re-arrested and subsequently charged and jailed.
