Serious assault in Walker leaves man in critical condition
A man is in a critical condition following assault in Walker.
Around 11:15am on Saturday 22 July, police were called to reports that a man had been seriously assaulted at house on Wigmore Avenue.
Emergency services attended and a 43-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
He remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service also attended to put out a fire that had been started at the property.
Enquiries are ongoing into the assault but police have already arrested two men - aged 35 and 18 - and a 40-year-old woman in relation to the incident.
The 35-year-old man remains in police custody, the woman has been released on police bail and the teenager has been released with no further action.
Extra officers will be in the area today to carry out their enquiries and to reassure any concerned local residents living in Walker.
