Newcastle food bank to reopen after vandalism
Newcastle's West End Foodbank is set to hand out care parcels later, for the first time since vandals repeatedly broke into a building it uses for distribution.
The foodbank was unable to hand out supplies at the Venerable Bede Church on Monday after vandals caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage. They returned on Tuesday to cause further disruption, but the organisers vowed to press on with today's delivery.
The vandals smashed windows and sprayed fire extinguishers, meaning that poverty-stricken families could not collect their food allowance.
The foodbank, which opened in March 2013, has grown to be the largest foodbank in the UK, feeding more than 40,000 people in last year.
