Following the fire in Grenfell Tower in London, councils across the North East have told Tyne Tees how they will ensure residents' safety.

Thirteen Group owns high-rise residential buildings in Stockton, Middlesbrough and Hartlepool. Ian Wardle, chief executive of Thirteen Group, has said:

Tower block safety: Newcastle

Newcastle Council has 93 high-rise tower blocks, 38 of which are managed by Your Homes Newcastle. Newcastle City Council has said:

Tower block safety: Gateshead

The Gateshead Housing Company runs the housing operation in Gateshead. There are 25 council owned tower blocks. Peter Udall, Gateshead Council’s service director for Design and Technical Services, said:

They added that while they do not have any of the type of cladding that was used on Grenfell Tower, they are 'in the process of sending samples of materials off to be tested, as a precautionary measure.'

North Yorkshire does not have residential high-rise buildings, but they have reviewed their buildings portfolio as they provide schools and residential facilities for both adults and children. They said:

South Tyneside Council has four tower blocks - three in Jarrow and one in Hebburn. They said:
