Ripon Olympian Jack Laugher collects his MBE

Olympic champion Jack Laugher has received his MBE alongside diving partner Chris Mears.

The pair came out on top after a seamless performance in the synchronised 3m springboard at the 2016 games in Rio.

Laugher, from Ripon, went on to win a silver in the men's individual 3m springboard.

On receiving the honour from Prince Charles, Laugher said he had never felt nerves as extreme in his life, not even when he was on the cusp of winning a gold medal.

Recalling his encounter with Charles, Laugher said: "He actually made a joke, and said 'oh, the real gymnasts are coming now'."
