'Methanol' cocktail in Greece left woman blind

A woman has told how she woke up blind after drinking a cocktail laced with methanol while on a Greek holiday with friends.

Hannah Powell, from Ormesby near Middlesbrough, was in Zante when she fell ill and was rushed to hospital.

Methanol, which her cocktail was laced with, is a chemical commonly found in anti-freeze.

The 21-year-old told Good Morning Britain: "I ended up sleeping for 26 hours and when I woke up, I was blind."

Miss Powell has since partially regained her sight but still needs dialysis treatment three times a week for the damage done to her kidneys.
