Boy, 11, rescued after falling onto rocks at Cullercoats
An 11-year-old boy has narrowly escaped serious injury after falling 20ft onto rocks near Cullercoats Bay.
The UK Coastguard alerted the RNLI to request for assistance after it was reported that a child had fallen.
Brigade members arrived on scene and, in conjunction with the lifeboat crew, carried out a full assessment of the boy.
Although shaken from his fall, it was thought that he probably only sustained a sprained ankle and he left the scene in the care of a parent who was advised to take him to a local hospital for further assessment.
For the second week in a row, the incident occurred just before the RNLI Brigade’s weekly training night so there was a total of 17 team members at the scene.
