Roman cavalry exhibition opens across Hadrian's Wall
This weekend sees the launch of a new five-month exhibition along the full length of Hadrian’s Wall celebrating the cavalry regiments that once guarded the famous North West frontier of the Roman Empire.
Hadrian’s Cavalry brings together a unique group of Roman cavalry objects, including ornate helmets, armour and weapons on loan from national and international museums.
One of the key items from the exhibition at Great North Museum: Hancock is a Roman Cavalry Ribchester style helmet (on loan from the British Museum), which will be displayed alongside a second Ribchester style helmet (on loan from a UK private collection) for the very first time.
