Man fitted with metal plate after jaw shattering assault in Newcastle

A man was left with a shattered jaw and had to have a metal plate fitted in the day following an assault in Newcastle.

The incident took place on March 12th when a man, 29, was walking on Newgate Street and was approached by two men outside the Premier Inn.

The men got into an altercation at which point both of the two men punched the man in the face, breaking his jaw.

A police investigation is underway into the incident but so far those responsible have not been identified. Officers are now appealing for the men responsible to come forward and speak to police or for any witnesses who saw the assault to get in touch.

Newcastle Inspector Ricky Thompson said:

The first man is described as:

  • white;

  • around 5ft11in tall;

  • aged 20-30;

  • being of medium build;

  • having short dark hair that was shaved on the sides;

  • having a north east accent;

  • wearing a black jacked and cream trousers.

The second man is described as:

  • black;

  • around 5ft10in;

  • also aged 20-30;

  • having short dark hair shaved on the sides;

  • wearing skinny jeans and a black jacket.

Police are asking the men involved or anyone who know the men to contact them on 101 quoting log 1232 16/03/17 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
