Man and woman arrested after children taken from Newcastle school

A man and a woman have been arrested after two young children were taken from outside a school in Newcastle.

The children, a girl aged five and a boy aged two were picked up by afemale relative from a school in West Denton at around 9:30 this morning

An investigation was launched and officers made enquires with local travelcompanies.

The children were found this afternoon by police in the care of the samerelative and another man.

They are now in the process of being returned to the care of their fosterparents.

A man and woman have been arrested in connection with the incident andremain in police custody at this time.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said at no stage were the childrenbelieved to be in any immediate danger.

They said: "Officers will remain in the area of the school to reassure anyconcerned parents and answer any questions they may have."
