Aitor Karanka departure: Who next for Middlesbrough?
Bookmakers William Hill have installed caretaker manager Steve Agnew as the early favourite to become the new Middlesbrough boss after Aitor Karanka left the club.
Former Newcastle and England manager Steve McLaren is second favourite to go back to the Riverside where he won the League Cup in 2004.
Roy Hodgson - another former England boss - rounds off the top three.
William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: “Karanka was not able to adapt his Championship stars to life in the Premier League and the Boro board have obviously decided that a change is needed as the side hurtle back towards the second tier.
“Having seen the success that Craig Shakespeare has had at Leicester maybe Steve Agnew could get the nod for Boro.”
Odds for next permanent Middlesbrough manager:
5/4 - Steve Agnew
6/1 - Steve McLaren
8/1 - Roy Hodgson
10/1 - Nigel Pearson; Alan Pardew; Jurgen Klinsman
14/1 - Roberto Di Matteo; Jaap Stam
16/1 - Alex Neil; Martin O’Neil
