Former Newcastle United striker signs for Notts County

Former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has signed joined Notts County until the end of the season.

The 35-year-old joins the League Two side after becoming a free agent after ending his spell at Fleetwood Town.

Ameobi's move becomes the second time he has played for the Magpies - starting off his career with Newcastle United before signing with Notts County who share the same nickname.

The Nigerian nicknamed the 'Fenham Eusebio' made 219 appearances for his boyhood club Newcastle United scoring 79 goals.

Ameobi joins up with ex-Magpies midfielder and current player/boss Kevin Nolan and former Newcastle United striker Alan Smith and Adam Campbell at Meadow Lane.

The former Bolton forward was given the number 9 shirt on his debut during Notts County 2-0 loss to Accrington Stanley.
