Benitez: 'Fans can make the difference'

Rafa Benitez praised Newcastle United fans 'communication' towards the players following their 1-0 win over Derby County.

Benitez was full of admiration for the St. James Park support after a week of speculation surrounding his future ended on a high note.

A deflected Matt Ritchie strike was enough to see off the visitors on Saturday.

Newcastle regained their lead at the top of the Championship as rivals Brighton & Hove Albion could only manage a draw away to Brentford FC.

A sell-out crowd of 52,231 witnessed Newcastle's second win over Derby this season. The Magpies were united both on the field and in the stands as fans chanted Rafa name from start to finish - much to the delight of the the Spaniard.

Benitez reflected on a host of missed chances that could've increased their scoreline. Newcastle victory against the Rams sees them gain 62 points from 29 games - three more than their 2009/10 season when they won the Championship title under current Brighton boss Chris Hughton.
