South Shields FC complete defender deal

South Shields FC have signed defender Darren Lough from IA Akranes.

Lough can operate at left-back or at the heart of the defence, joins following his departure from Icelandic top flight side IA Akranes.

The 27-year-old will be available for his debut in South Shields Durham Challenge Cup quarter-final against Hartlepool United at Mariners Park on Tuesday.

Darren came through Newcastle United's youth system and also captained the Magpies’ reserve side before leaving St James’ Park in 2010.

Lough also spent two years at hometown club Ashington before signing for Icelandic club, KA Akureyri in 2012.

Darren returns back to the North East after five seasons in Iceland and has secured international clearance to complete his move.
