Ant and Dec scoop 16th National TV award for best presenters
Ant and Dec won the 'TV presenter' award for the 16th consecutive year at the National Television Awards.
The reigning Geordie champions - who host a litany of programmes on the TV schedule, including I'm A Celebrity and Britain's Got Talent - were up against Gary Lineker, James Corden, Rylan Clark-Neal and Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins in the category.
Ant said: "Thank you indeed, this is just mad. It's gone mad Dec.""We were chatting in the car on the way here - and I mean we've won it year after year after year, we're very grateful - we said if we lost out this year to Mel and Sue, who are remarkable on Bake Off, that would have been a good shout."
Dec said: "Thankfully we didn't!""We are thrilled, we get more and more grateful every year because we're never quite sure when this run will come to an end."
The TV presenters thanked the people who work on their programmes and their "beautiful wives for putting up with us".
It was their second award of the night. They were also named as the first winners of the night picking up the entertainment programme prize for their show Saturday Night Takeaway; beating other popular shows such as The Graham Norton Show and Keith Lemon's Celebrity Juice.
Accepting the award, Ant said: "It really is our baby and, it's a bit of a shock first award up, but what a thrill."
Dec said: "Thank you, thank you so much, thank you to all of the talented clever people that stand behind us here and come up with all the ideas and all that. We have such fun doing it and thrilled you like watching it.
"We're back at the end of February for another run."
During interviews backstage, the pair joked with Queen of the Jungle Scarlett Moffatt that they would be having an early night as should she because she will be joining them on Saturday Night Takeaway for the first time tomorrow evening.
I'm a Celebrity winner and Googlebox star Scarlett Moffatt, from County Durham, co-hosted the NTAs with Dermot O'leary.
