Moyes: January a "defining month" for Sunderland

David Moyes describes January as a 'defining month' for Sunderland ahead their clash with Stoke City.

The Black Cats play hosts to the Potters on Saturday at the Stadium of Light. Moyes looks to add to their 2-2 draw against Liverpool to climb out of the relegation zone. The Scotsman hopes by the end of January his side will have a better understanding of where their challenge lies this season.

The January transfer window has proved to be a busy month for Sunderland. After rejecting several bids have been rejected for strike Jermain Defoe, Moyes has revealed they have dismissed an approach for Patrick Van Aanholt.

Moyes was questioned if Sunderland had turned down a bid for Van Aanholt, Moyes replied "Yes, this is correct."

Moyes earmarked Stoke striker Peter Crouch amongst a list of other key men his side should be wary of. Stoke currently in 11th place, will be looking to get back to winning ways after being knocked out by Wolves in the FA cup.
