Middlesbrough's Daniel Ayala will serve a three-match ban after his red card appeal was unsuccessful, following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

Ayala was sent off in Boro's FA Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday for serious foul play.

The Spanish defender will miss Boro's next two Premier League games against Watford and West Ham and their FA Cup fourth round tie against Accrington Stanley.
