School bus driver jailed for dangerous driving in flood

A man who drove a bus load of school children into a flood near Newton on Ouse in North Yorkshire has been jailed for a year after being found guilty of dangerous driving.

Graham Jones, 43, ignored warning signs on Tollerton Road in January, and was consequently left stranded with 23 children on board.

The prosecution at York Crown Court said he drove past two 'road closed' signs into the water as he tried to take pupils to Easingwold School.

Jones admitted careless driving but denied dangerous driving.

He told the court it was a "genuine mistake" and added:

But the jury took less than an hour and a half to find him guilty.
