A Berwick MP backs the government crackdown on dangerous driving.

Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, has welcomed an announcement of plans to launch a public consultation on sentences for driving offences.

The Berwick MP met Justice Secretary Liz Truss MP, and Justice Minister Sam Gyimah MP, in the Commons yesterday to discuss the plans which include gathering public views on whether the present maximum sentence for driving offences, including death by dangerous driving, should be increased.

The proposals also seek to similarly increase the penalties for causing death by driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

The consultation is now open and can be completed via the Ministry of Justice website.
