Nearly fifty years after the American civil rights campaigner Martin Luther King was awarded an honorary doctorate at Newcastle University, a rare piece of film has been discovered which shows him being interviewed by Britain's first black TV reporter.

The interview by Tyne Tees Television reporter Clyde Alleyne has been digitised by the North East Film Archive.

It's being seen as a key find ahead of the city's celebrations next year to mark the visit half a century ago.
