Police release pictures of injuries after Newcastle hammer attack

Police investigating an unprovoked attack in which a woman was hit over the head with a hammer in Jesmond, are re-appealing for witnesses.

At 1:25am on Thursday, July 14, a 21-year-old woman was assaulted while walking in Shortridge Terrace.

She was approached by a man who hit her in the back of the head with what is thought to be hammer, knocking her to the ground.

The woman was taken to hospital with injuries to her head and hand.

Her attacker is described as:

  • Being around 5ft 7ins tall

  • Of stumpy / fat build

  • Bald

  • He was wearing a black short sleeved polo shirt with pink and blue print on the front and blue jeans.
