Boy who lost both parents to cancer opens new Durham support centre

A 15-year-old from Durham who lost both parents to cancer is officially opening a new centre offering free cancer information and support in the city.

Jack Salkeld was just one when his mother died following breast cancer, while his father Bryan lost his battle with bowel cancer last year, aged 63.

The Macmillan Information and Support Centre will be based at the University Hospital of North Durham.

The new centre he’ll be opening has been provided in partnership betweenMacmillan Cancer Support and County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

Based within the hospital close to the main outpatients department, it offers a free, drop-in service for anyone with questions about cancer.
