A Northumbria Police officer has been rapped for using her mobile phone while driving on ITV documentary show Car Wars.

Sergeant Julie Neve was filmed making a personal call while in control of a police vehicle.

And although it was not a criminal offence as the officer was driving on a police access road to a police station and in the police staff area of the car park, she has been spoken to by bosses.

Sgt Neve was not handed any penalty points or a fine but has made a contribution to Brake road safety charity for the amount of a fixed penalty notice.

Members of the public are handed a £100 fine and three penaltypoints if caught using a handheld phone while driving.

The penalty points on their licence could also lead to a significantincrease in car insurance.

Car Wars is a three-part documentary series which follows NorthumbriaPolice's Operations Department for three months.
