Crowds line the street as World Cup winners Bobby and Jackie Charlton are paraded in an open-top Rolls Royce through their hometown of Ashington.

This amazing footage was captured by local journalist Vince Gledhill just weeks after the Charlton brothers had helped England win their first - and still only - on July 30 1966.

The police estimated half of the town turned out to give the brothers a hero's welcome.

Former Newcastle Chronicle journalist Vince shot the 8mm cine footage of the brothers riding through the former Northumberland mill-town for Bobby and Jackie's younger brother Gordon, who was working with the merchant navy in the South China Sea.
