Record numbers attend Newcastle Pride festival
A record number of people attended the UK’s leading LGBT celebration last weekend (July 15-17), bringing the total number of visitors to this year’s festival to more than 73,000.
The weekend kicked off on Friday evening with the LGBT 5K run on the Town Moor followed by a screening of Sing along a Mamma Mia.
On Saturday afternoon a record-breaking 12,500 people took part in the annual parade up to the Moor, and their arrival launched the official start of the music and entertainment at the site.
Last year Newcastle Pride boosted the North East economy by more than £9 million and although figures are still currently being calculated for this year’s event, organisers are confident that it will be even higher.
